Overview

Many commercial analytical laboratories provide analyses from a list of standard EPA or ASTM methods. These laboratories usually operate in a production environment, and the personnel running the instrumentation may not have the training or experience necessary to respond appropriately to non-routine samples. Consequently, it can be very difficult finding a commercial laboratory that will even consider accepting a non-routine sample for analysis. Even when laboratories will accept a non-routine sample, there are often questions regarding the quality of the data that is produced.

Diablo's development laboratory is designed specifically for non-routine applications and development projects. Our problem-solving approach requires more expertise, set-up time, and data evaluation, and the project costs reflect this. However, we have both the equipment and experience to help solve your challenging analytical and process problems

If a problem can be solved by routine testing, then the quickest, most cost-effective solution is to send samples to an appropriate production laboratory. However, when routine testing is is inadequate, Diablo's laboratory and development services are available for customers with non-routine, high-value problems to solve. Diablo can also include technology transfer of instrumentation and methodology to your facility as part of a project.

Analytical Instruments and Equipment

Diablo Analytical, Inc. specializes in gas- phase analytical techniques. These techniques include gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), atomic emission detection (AED) for GC, direct MS and gas analysis.

Gas Chromatography (GC)

Diablo Analytical, Inc. utilizes the latest Agilent 6890 GC system. Sample inlet techniques include split injection, splitless, programmed temperature vaporization, on-column, and valve injection. A large selection of GC columns is available for use. Detection options include MS, AED, FID, TCD.

Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)

Diablo Analytical, Inc. utilizes the Agilent 5973 GC-MSD system. The GC can be configured for each application and the mass spectrometer is capable of scan or SIM electron impact techniques.

Atomic Emission Detection (GC-AED)

This sensitive and selective GC detector generates elemental chromatograms from a list of many potential elements: fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, arsenic, boron, silicon, germanium, oxygen, selenium, lead, antimony, iron, nickel, vanadium and many other elements. Diablo Analytical, Inc. uses the latest Agilent G2350 GC-AED system.

Direct MS

Some gas analysis can be performed without GC separations. Direct MS can look at samples under a range of pressures or vacuum. The instrumentation is highly customized for this use. Gas analysis and purifier testing are two examples of applications for this technique.

Gas Analysis

Gas analysis is a wide area of application. The techniques that we use are useful for some gas analysis applications. The GC, GC-MS and GC-AED are used for this application.
