The Diablo Analytical 5000A Real-Time Gas Analyzer

Diablo's 5000A Real-Time Gas Analyzer bridges the gap between low-performance Residual Gas Analyzers (RGAs), and high-performance laboratory mass spectrometers.  The 5000A combines Agilent Technologies proven 5975 Mass Selective Detector technology, a specially-designed process sampling interface, and Diablo's MS Sensor 3.0 process analysis software for  Real-time chemical measurement for continuous improvement.

Based on the Agilent Technologies 5975 Mass Selective Detector

  • High-performance benchtop quadrupole mass spectrometer for fast, sensitive, stable, and reliable analysis.
  • Specially-designed process sampling system for fast response and rugged operation.
  • MS Sensor 3.0 process analysis software for real-time process monitoring.
  • Special hardware and instrument tuning software enable the sensitive detection of low-molecular weight gases like hydrogen.
  • Easy conversion of 5975 MSD to a standard GC-MS configuration

Robust and Flexible Sampling Interface

  • Differentially-pumped, dual-orifice design is simple, flexible, robust, and reliable
  • Very fast response compared to simple capillary interfaces
  • Inert – semiconductor-grade, electro-polished stainless steel
  • High-performance capacitance manometer can be used to monitor and compensate for sample-pressure variations
  • Custom-fitted interface heater blanket and controller
  • Orifice size is used to control amount of sample entering the MS
    • Can be adjusted to accommodate vacuum to high-pressure sample pressures, and trace to %-level analytes..
    • Orifice disks can be changed easily without venting the MS

Reliable Calibration and Quantitation

One of the important features of the 5000A RTGA is its ability to perform stable and reliable quantitative analysis.  From the extremely stable 5975 MSD, to the process sampling interface and the MS Sensor software, the RTGA has been designed with quantitative analysis in mind.

The following calibration plots illustrate the linearity of the RTGA in both trace and high-level applications:

MS Sensor 3.0:  Multi-Sensor Process Analysis Software for Real-Time Gas Analyzers:

The MS Sensor software is designed to allow simple, yet flexible acquisition and display of real-time process data using the Agilent Technologies 5975 MSD and other kinds of instruments and sensors like pressure and flow meters.  Contact Diablo Analytical for the current list of supported instruments and sensors.

Features

  • Enables the Agilent Technologies 5973/75 MSD to be used for continuous process analysis.
  • Software architecture allows real-time data to be acquired from multiple kinds of instruments and sensors.
  • User-defined formulas can be defined and applied to instrument signal data in real time.  This allows ratio, normalization, and other calculations to be performed and displayed in real time.
  • A linear calibration function can easily be generated for Signals.
  • Up to 6 trend plot windows can be used to display graphical results in real time.
  • A real-time data grid displays numeric results in real time
  • Results are logged to comma-delimited (CSV) text files that can be easily imported into spreadsheets and other data analysis or modeling applications.
  • An event log allows logging of user notes, system messages, and error and warning alerts.
  • A Method Wizard allows users to quickly and easily create new methods.

The History of the 5000A Real-Time Gas Analyzer

The hardware sampling interface technology and MS Sensor software were originally developed by Diablo Analytical and licensed to Agilent Technologies in 2001 to enable the Agilent 5973N MSD to be used for direct gas sampling and continuous process analysis.  Agilent named that instrument the Agilent 5000A Real-Time Gas Analyzer (RTGA).

In February of 2007, Agilent and Diablo signed an agreement that enabled Diablo to take over development, manufacturing, sales and support of the 5000A RTGA.
